And so the story goes.........
Born in Nigeria, but later growing up in the United Kingdom, Aminu spent most of his life as a student in the pursuit of a degree in business management. It was at the age of 8, when Aminu was selected to be in the school’s choir, that his taste for music and performing secretly started to take hold of him. By day he studied hard to make his family proud of his academic achievements, but by night, he was secretly locked away in his roughly built music lab, fuelling his passion for singing. Aminu would go on to achieve both his Ba and Ma in business management, but mean while back at the lab, there was an onslaught of music material that was continuously growing.
Keeping the music well hidden from his family at the time, and only sharing it with a few close friends, Aminu went on to create a few demos that would later catch the attention of producers and other people in the music industry, including the now music mogul, Simon Cowell. In 2003 Aminu was given a seal of approval when his demo landed on Simon’s desk, and after liking what he heard, Simon passed it on to the management of Sony/BMG at the time, whilst he was filming American Idol in the USA. Unfortunately after an interview with Aminu and BMG, without Simon around, or a management team of sort to support him, the potential deal fell through. This didn’t deter Aminu, who then decided to take his show direct to the people. He went out and assembled a band for live gigs, and starting playing gigs first in London, then up and down the UK.
Convinced he had what it takes, Aminu has done everything from being a backing vocalist, to becoming a dance instructor of styles such as Salsa, Hip Hop, and Zouk Lambada, in order to help perfect his craft. By 2005, Aminu was feeling ready to show the world what he was capable of, and feeling nothing wasn’t worth trying, he appeared on several TV shows like UK X Factor in 2005, MTV Hugo Boss Urban Rules 2006 Nigerian X factor 2012 and The Voice UK 2013. Although unsuccessful on the talent shows, Aminu now counts himself lucky, because he grew up listening to artist like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Prince, R Kelly, Usher, Boys 2 Men, Nas, Method Man, Notorious B.I.G, Janet Jackson, Mariah Carey, Aerosmith, Seal, and the list goes on, who
have helped inspire Aminu diverse musical style and taste, and made Aminu want to remain true to his craft.
In 2011, Aminu recorded his first album that he funded himself but wasn’t completely happy with the results, so it never got released. Instead he decided to use the material to continue performing at gigs, gaining him a wide variety of fans. In Aminu own words, “It’s great doing live shows gigging up and down the UK to as far as Dubai, where I performed at the iconic Sail shaped 7 star Burl Al Arab Hotel, along with many other countries. I have seen the benefits because it is where an Artist can truly develop, and after putting so much in to all of this, it’s such a buzz to hear the crowds singing and having a goodtime to my performance and my music. Now I want to make sure I have the right team to make my first album a success, because even great albums fail without the right marketing and promotion.”
Now happy and ready with the direction of his yet to be titled official first album, Aminu has taking his music dream one step further by launching the release of his Debut Single entitled ‘Shake U’ featuring Nigerian rapper Mr Cha Cha. This Afrobeat style up-tempo club track, with its smooth lyrics and catchy melodies, will have you singing and dancing along in no time. There are also remixes to turn up the EDM lovers out there, as well as a smoking hot underground rnb/club remix, featuring US rapper Rob Ra, due for release in Spring 2015. Sky is the limit for Aminu’s determination for success, and from the sound of a few other tasters such as another ‘Amazing’ another afrobeat style thumper, and the classic rnb sound of “Do you feel me.” Aminu has a style that’s easy on the ears, heavy on the beats, and made for a global audience.
